The Grandmothers

Can you feel it? The rhythm of the drumming. The pounding of dancing feet on dusty soil. It's electric. The buzz of energy as the pulsing bodies move as one. The grandmothers are rejoicing because you have come back. You have come home. You have let go all the pain of the ancestors, shed it all, sent it on its way in a howl of tears. And now you are freed. The snake of freedom is uncurling in your belly, rising up through your body to meet the golden crown of your glory. Can you feel it? The power of a thousand grandmothers calling your name. Come dance with us oh Queen. Welcome. Tell us your wise words. Show us your wisdom. You are one of us now. Can you feel it? They are stretching out their arms to bring you into the circle of Elders. It's time now. The fetters have been loosened, the fires are lit, flames flickering on gleeful, glistening cheeks. Can you feel it? Ba dum. Ba dum. Ba dum. Thank you for all you have done to liberate the ancestral ties. All who have gone before and all still to come will be forever changed. Ba dum. Ba dum. I can feel it. Sawubona my sisters. I see you. Ba dum. I am here. Ba dum. Twirling to the jumping voice of the drum. Ba dum. I am here. It is time. Ba dum.
